In the Italian capital Rome, gaze up at Michelangelo's frescoed ceiling in the Sistine Chapel and follow in the footsteps of mighty gladiators at the Colosseum. Enjoying sumptuous food in delightful piazzas is a highlight when visiting the Tuscan city of Florence, as is seeing the Renaissance statue of David and taking a leisurely stroll along the Arno River toward the beautiful Ponte Vecchio bridge.

A few hours from Milan sits lively Turin. Iconic monuments such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Milan's Gothic cathedral are also among Italy's must-sees. However, venturing into the countryside is just as rewarding. Along the coast of the Italian Riviera, the Cinque Terre region preserves quaint fishing villages, while across the water in Sicily enjoy panoramic hills and pretty towns like Taormina or the city of Palermo. But for the ultimate relaxing Italian getaway, there are the rolling hills of Tuscany: find charming bucolic villages, sample local Chianti in a centuries-old cellar and wander tidy rows of olive trees flourishing in the soft sunshine.
