In Australia's baked, arid centre, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is home to the country's most famous attraction: Ayers Rock. This hulking sandstone formation is at its most magical at sunset, when it appears to go through a rainbow of colours.

In the centre, remote Alice Springs is a pocket of authentic outback life, and to the north, a lively social scene and azure skies meet in tropical Cairns.
